Night Three of The Great Cover-Up @ The Rialto Theatre Tucson, AZ December 11, 2010

The third and final night of 2010 The Great Cover-Up was a night to remember. Band after band hit the stage with amazing performances covering other bands. No one thought Calexico could top their performance after the All Souls Procession just a month ago, but accompanied by Silver Thread Trio, members of Seashell Radio and a cast of characters that included a gorilla, a rabbit and a beer can, top it they did. In true Flaming Lips style, they had the audience singing along and participating in the festivities with pop streamers, silly string and yes, balloons. Lots of them.

Many thanks to the people involved involved with this benefit for Tucson Artists and Musicians Health Alliance – the 40 bands, the 2 venues and especially Curtis McCrary, Stephen Seigel, Mel Mason, David Slutes and Dan Hernandez. The word is over-used these days, but the event was epic. For information about T.A.M.H.A., check out their website here.

Don’t miss Spillapalooza – Oil Hell in Our Gulf Benefit Concert @ The Hut Tucson, AZ August 1, 2010

Yeah, we’re all pissed off about BP’s irresponsibility but the damage has been done and now it’s time to make sure we do everything we can to help fix this mess.  What? You don’t have any pantyhose or hair to contribute to the cause?  How about attending Spillapalooza this Sunday at The Hut? The venue and the musicians are donating their time to raise money for the Center for Biological Diversity.  You know them.  They’re the ones you hear about on NPR all the time and they’ve filed a lawsuit against BP.  As a non profit organization, they can use your $5 or $10 suggested donation at the door.

Starting at 5PM on August 1, 2010, here are the fine folks you’ll get to see/hear, not necessarily in this order:

Al Perry
The Swigs
Fish Karma and the Love Generation
Loren Dirkes and Gila Bend
The Modeens
The El Camino Royales
The Wayback Machine
The Dusty Buskers
The Fisters
The Possibles
Vannessa Lundon
Aaron Gilmartin

If you are unable to attend, please donate to the Gulf Disaster Fund if you can.
