Casa Maria operates a Free Kitchen (as well as provide free legal aid, health services, free American citizenship lessons in Spanish among other programs) that serves nearly 1000 homeless people and working poor families. Casa Maria has been in existence for about 30 years and is overseen by Catholic Worker Brian Flagg and his loyal following of volunteers. Brian, like all the full time volunteers earn $10.00/week plus three hots and a cot. This year marked the benefit’s 9th year. This concert provides much needed dollars for the kitchen and helps promote the public awareness of how economically difficult these times really are and the people who are deeply affected by the race wars.
